Doors, windows and gateways

There are lots of systems used to temporarily seal the main flood routes into a property i.e. doors, windows and gateways. Removable household products typically clip onto, or slot into a pre-installed frame, with a variety of techniques used to produce a watertight seal. Some have very discreet permanent fittings, some none at all. Most are designed to be installed in a matter of minutes prior to the onset of flooding.

Floodgate, developed over a five year period in conjunction with the University of Wales was awarded the BS Kitemark in May.

The expanding metal frame with industrial rubber jacket can be put in place in wet or dry conditions in just a couple of minutes. Once installed it can withstand tons of pressure, creates a near-watertight seal and can be used in fresh or saltwater conditions.

In most cases the thick rubber cover moulds itself to the doorway, but where the surrounding surfaces are very rough a non permanent sealant is provided for fitting.

Floodgate is designed to extend in modular form. Floodgate units are positioned laterally between supplied removable metal stanchions, and have been proven to be effective in large openings.

This multiple storage and transportation unit is designed to help distribution and siting of Floodgate. The rack when full can be fork-lifted with ease, protecting the product from accidental damage. To conserve space when in storage, the Floodgate storage unit can be pillow-stacked.

Due to popular demand, Caro Flood Defence Systems have taken the WaterWall concept of quick and easy use and developed WaterDoor.

WaterDoor makes use of two vertical channels fitted at either side of the door entry, that allow the lightweight individual panels to be dropped into position.

Again, as with WaterWall, each panel has its own rubber seal that, when compressed by the WaterDoor fixing sequence, forms a completely water tight barrier.

The use of these small light weight panels allows for the very quick setting up of the barrier and once finished with it can be easily dismantled and stored away inconspicuously.

Available in any widths and heights up to 1200mm WaterDoor can be manufactured to suit dimensions supplied.

Made from aluminium and powder coated to your choice of colour, it is easy to install and will look good on any style of house. The frame is permanently and unobtrusively attached to your doorway so that at a moments notice the barrier panels can be slotted into place. By simply tightening the allen bolts a waterproof seal is achieved.

As standard two barriers are supplied with each kit, giving a height of approximately 500mm but more are available for high flood areas. The flexibility is appealing, allowing easy access in and out of the property at low water-levels.

Tested by the civil engineering department at Dundee University, Flood Pro-Tech's barrier system can withstand high water pressures, and offers good impact resistance to floating debris. The shield itself is manufactured from clear polycarbonate. It fits onto an aluminium alloy frame, secured by a series of clips to form a seal. The frame itself has a wooden housing, with a choice of finishes.

FloodArk
