"You need to consider the house as a whole; you may need professional help."

Environment Agency presentation

The whole house solution

Short of a complete re-engineering of a building, water will eventually enter by a variety of routes. Even the most advanced door barriers cannot prevent water entering properties through poor surrounding seals, unprotected air-bricks and porous walls. IFDP recognises and promotes the importance of a whole building solution. This applies equally to commercial and domestic properties.

1 Site Survey

Evaluate the flood risk, identify possible points of water entry. Evaluate preparation required. If necessary, recommend most suitable barrier system, or systems.

2 Sealing

If necessary, improve seals around door and window frames

3 Wallshield

If necessary, treat brickwork with water-repellant solution

4 Installation

For barrier systems with permanent sub-frames, professionally install to ensure water-tight seals and to enable swift attachment of door, window and vent barriers when required.

5 Alarm

A range of alarms are available to warn you of rising water levels, either as an individual, or a community.

6 Training

Explain the use of demountable products, making sure that you are confident to fit them properly when the need arises.

7 Maintenance

Ensure that your flood defence products retain maximum efficiency over many years.
